John Licari is a music teacher, percussionist, music copyist, and composer from Upstate New York. He received his AAS in Music Business (2005) from SUNY Orange, BA in Music (2009), and his MA in Music Education (2011) both from CUNY Hunter.
After graduating in 2011, he started working as a music teacher in the New York City public school system. He currently works in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where he directs a concert band, modern rock band, and assists with the choir and string orchestra. It's not uncommon for his students to be the 'guinea pigs' for one of his new compositions.
When he is not setting a score, composing, or teaching, he continues to do what he loves doing in his spare time - play the drums. For 15 years and counting, he has played drums for numerous punk rock outfits - The Black Hand, Tesla's Revenge, The Orgonauts, Cop/Out, and Punk Rock Polka Experience. He is also a percussionist for the Professional Musicians of Orange County, a collection of parade musicians who are hired to performing all over the Hudson Valley, and New Jersey.
John’s pieces have been published by HaMaR Percussion Publications, Imagine Music Publishing, Musika Publishing, and has self-published arrangements and originals on SMP Press. He also operates as a music copyist under the name Music Preparation Services (www.musicprepservices.com).
John lives in Poughkeepsie with his wife, Kerry, and daughter Lennon.
